Changdeokgung Palace’s Heungnyemun Hall Opens to Publicfor Limited Time
Seoul, South Korea – Changdeokgung Palace,one of the five grand palaces in Seoul, will open its Heungnyemun Hall to the public for a limited time starting next month. The special event, whichruns from October 1st to 19th, offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore the inner workings of this historically significant building.
The Heungnyemun Hall, meaning Hall of Cultivating Bright Politics, served as the king’s private residence during the Joseon Dynasty. However, from the late Joseon period onward, it transitioned into the primary location for the king to conduct state affairsand discuss national policies.
The hall was tragically destroyed by fire in 1917 and subsequently rebuilt in 1920. In 1985, it was designated as a national treasure, signifying its immensecultural and historical significance.
A Glimpse into Royal Life
The In-Depth Tour of Heungnyemun Hall will be conducted twice daily, at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, from Tuesday to Saturday. Participants will embark on a guided journey through the hall’s exterior, including the front gate, the Donghaenggak (Eastern Wing), and the central hall.
The tour will also offer a glimpse into the hall’s interior, showcasing the reception room, the guest room, and the corridors, all adorned with modern lighting fixtures. Visitors will have the chance towitness the meticulous restoration efforts undertaken on the hall.
