The session, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, marked a pivotal moment in China’s legislative process.
Key Decisions Passed
The most significant outcome of the session was the passage of the revised National Defense Education Law. The new law aims to enhance national defense education and strengthen the sense of patriotic duty among Chinese citizens. Additionally, the Standing Committee approved a decision to amend the Statistics Law, aiming to improve data collection and analysis for better policy-making.
Another major decision involved the conferment of state medals and honors on individuals in recognition of their contributions to the nation. The awards are to be granted in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The session also saw the appointment of Han Jun as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to this effect. Han’s appointment follows the removal of Tang Renjian from the position.

Other attendees included Vice Chairmen Li Hongzhong, Wang Dongming, Xiao Jie, Zheng Jianbang, Hao Mingjin, Cai Dafeng, He Wei, Wu Weihua, Tie Qing, Zhang Qingwei, Luosang Jiangcun, Xuekelaiti Zaker, and Secretary-General Liu Qi.
Representatives from the State Council, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the National Supervisory Commission, and other relevant departments also participated in the session.
Post-Session Activities
Following the conclusion of the session, the 14th National People’s Congress held the 12th专题讲座, with Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji presiding. Mu Hong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Director of the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, delivered a lecture titled Comprehensively Implementing the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Striving to Fulfill the Reform Tasks Deployed in the Decision.
