Title: Guangxi Nanning Aims to Build International Talent Highlands for ASEAN
Nanning, Guangxi, China – On September 13, 2024, the Nanning-ASEAN Talent Exchange Activity Month kicked off in Nanning, Guangxi Province. Local officials announced plans to continuously optimize the talent service environment, promoting the deep integration of talent chains, industrial chains, and innovation chains, with the goal of creating an international talent highland oriented towards the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
According to the Nanning municipal government, the city aims to become a magnet for talent, fostering a favorable ecosystem for talent development. This year’s Nanning-ASEAN Talent Exchange Activity Month has facilitated the signing of 14 major talent projects and platforms, with nearly 80% of the signed projects being collaborations between Nanning enterprises and institutions and domestic and international universities. The focus areas include electronics and information, transportation, biopharmaceuticals, and vocational education, with collaborations in scientific research innovation, platform construction, result transformation, talent cultivation, and integration of industry and education.
One notable collaboration is between Nanning College and Malaysia’s National University, which will conduct research and talent training in the field of transportation through the Guangxi China-ASEAN Comprehensive Transportation International Joint Key Laboratory. Another significant project is the Thai Chinese+ Skills Talent Training Program, a collaboration between Nanning Beibu Gulf Talent Gold Port and the Thai Chinese Science and Technology Association, which aims to train urgently needed Chinese+Skills talent for Chinese enterprises in Thailand. The program also plans to establish a technology incubator in both China and Thailand to serve talent teams engaged in off-shore innovation and entrepreneurship.
Nanning, being the capital city closest to ASEAN, is rapidly advancing towards becoming an international metropolis open to ASEAN cooperation, with the aim of creating a China-ASEAN Cross-border Industrial Development and Cooperation Zone. The city has actively worked on creating a favorable talent development ecosystem, establishing a strong talent attraction magnet.
Since its inception, the Nanning-ASEAN Talent Exchange Activity Month has attracted over 1.72 million talents participating online and offline, facilitating the落地 of technology and projects in Nanning. The China-Nanning Overseas Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, held for seven consecutive years, has attracted 3,371 projects from over 40 countries and regions worldwide, with 37 projects and their talent teams settling in Nanning for development.
On the same day, Nanning released the first batch of diversified life service lists for high-level talents, covering 12 major categories and 32 sub-items, including scenic tours, cultural arts, transportation, financial services, legal services, and human resources services. The service content encompasses the entire talent service chain, aiming to address the key small matters for talents and ensure the major development matters for them.
The efforts to create an international talent highland are part of China’s broader strategy to enhance cooperation with ASEAN and to promote the development of the Greater Bay Area. With its strategic location and growing economic importance, Nanning is well-positioned to become a key hub for talent and innovation in the region.
As Nanning continues to build its reputation as a talent-friendly city, it is expected to attract more international talent and investment, further propelling its growth as a vital link in China-ASEAN cooperation. The city’s focus on fostering a supportive environment for talent development aligns with the national strategy to build a modernized economy and to enhance China’s global competitiveness.
In conclusion, Nanning’s initiative to establish an international talent highland for ASEAN is a significant step towards fostering closer ties with the region and promoting mutual development. As the city continues to optimize its talent policies and attract high-caliber individuals, it is poised to become a beacon of innovation and growth in the ASEAN region.
