Waymo’s Self-Driving Taxis: Human Drivers Are the Problem, Not theTech

Out of the 23 most serious collisions involving Waymo vehicles, 16 were rear-end collisions caused by human drivers. In three instances, human drivers ran red lights and collided with Waymo’s self-driving taxis. Only five collisions involved Waymo vehicles triggering their airbags.
This data suggests that while self-driving technology is still under development, it is already demonstrably safer than human drivers in many situations.
