News Release: Mission Creek Playground Replacement Project Delayed in Kelowna
Kelowna, BC – The highly anticipated playground replacement project at Mission Creek Regional Park in Kelowna has been postponed, with the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) announcing a new start date of spring 2025. The delay is intended to provide additional time for thorough evaluation of accessibility standards, scheduling, and material availability, ensuring the project meets the community’s expectations.
“The project start has been delayed until spring 2025 to allow for further evaluation of accessibility standards, scheduling, and material availability,” according to a statement from the RDCO. “This extra time will ensure that we can address the community’s concerns.”
Initially scheduled to begin operations on September 9, the playground and rope swing area are now set to remain open until further notice. The last update to the playground was over a decade ago, and the RDCO has taken community input seriously, having conducted a survey in 2023 which garnered more than 225 responses.
“The RDCO appreciates the community’s input and patience as we work to ensure the best possible outcome for this project,” the statement continued.
The delay is a strategic move to ensure the project is executed to the highest standards, incorporating the community’s feedback for a playground that will serve local children and families for years to come.
