Elon Musk, the tech magnate known for his ventures in space exploration and electric vehicles, has added another feather to his cap by expressing his admiration for the Chinese 3A video game, ‘Black Myth: Wukong.’ The game, which has garnered global attention since its launch, has now received a glowing endorsement from Musk, who took to social media to share his thoughts and even a playful Photoshop of himself.
In a recent post, Musk described ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ as an impressive Chinese 3A title. What caught the eye was his creative touch, where he photoshopped his face onto the character Tian Ming Ren, seamlessly blending into the game’s aesthetic. The absence of any sense of incongruity in the image speaks volumes about the game’s design and adaptability.
‘Black Myth: Wukong’ has indeed emerged as one of the most successful 3A games this year. According to sales data from the Video Game Insights website, as of September 4, the game has seen a steady rise in sales, reaching 17.8 million copies. This figure marks an increase of nearly 3 million units from the previous week.
Moreover, this sales data excludes the figures from Wegame and PS5. If the confirmed 3 million sales on the PS5 platform are factored in, the total sales of ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ could easily surpass the 20 million mark.
This rapid ascent is nothing short of remarkable, as ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ surpassed the first-week sales myth of 10 million for the game ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ in just four days. It then reached nearly 20 million sales in just two weeks, outperforming the current 15 million sales of ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ by nearly 5 million units, setting new historical records.
Data from the Gamalytic website reveals that the majority of the game’s players are from China, accounting for 80.7% of the player base. However, the proportion of overseas players is steadily increasing, rising from 18.6% to 19.3% in just nine days.
The game has also received high praise from YouTube personality Legendary Drops. He believes that ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ breaks through the thematic constraints that have long plagued the Western gaming industry, offering a rich tapestry of Chinese cultural elements and a fresh gaming experience that has captivated Western players.
The success of ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ is not just a testament to the hard work of its developers, Game Science Studio, but also a reflection of the growing interest in Chinese culture and gaming globally. Musk’s endorsement is a significant boost for the game, providing it with additional visibility and credibility in the international market.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, ‘Black Myth: Wukong’ stands as a beacon of innovation and cultural pride, setting the stage for more diverse and engaging gaming experiences in the future.
