Shanghai, September 3, 2024 – In a significant milestone for the global steel and construction industries, the 22nd China International Metallurgical Industry Exhibition and the inaugural Steel Structure Building Supply Chain Exhibition opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. This three-day event, initiated in 1987, has solidified its status as the world’s premier metallurgical industry exhibition.

The inauguration was marked by the presence of eminent figures from the steel and construction sectors, including Mr. Hu Wenbo, the Party Secretary and Executive President of the China Iron and Steel Association, and Mr. Chen Yiming, the President of the China Real Estate Association. Also in attendance were Mr. Qian Gang, the Party Secretary and Chairman of the CITIC Taifuchang Special Steel Group, and Mr. Chen Jianguang, a Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy Vice President of China Minmetals Corporation, among others.

Notably, the concurrent Steel Structure Building Supply Chain Exhibition underscored the growing importance of steel structures in the building industry. Mr. Chen Jianguang, a representative of China Minmetals Corporation, highlighted the potential of steel structures in driving the industry forward, despite the current limited application of steel structures in architectural contexts.

Advocacy for Innovation and Collaboration

Mr. Xu Kai, a representative of Baosteel Engineering Group, underscored the necessity for a collaborative approach in integrating steel structures into architecture. He advocated for the creation of a closed-loop feedback system from architectural design through steel material selection to its integration into buildings, aiming to accelerate the transformation and upgrade of the supply chain.

Mr. Liu Guoliang, the Deputy General Manager of Hannover Messe (China) Co., Ltd., reaffirmed his company’s commitment to providing a platform for industry leaders to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate, emphasizing the role of exhibitions in driving innovation and fostering sustainable growth in the steel industry.

Book Launch Ceremony

The event also featured the launch of two new books published by the Metallurgical Industry Press, Research and Practice of Extreme Energy Efficiency in Steelmaking and Initial Exploration of Hydrogen Metallurgy (English Edition). These publications were introduced by Mr. Chen Zhuo, the Deputy General Manager (acting) and Chief Editor of the Metallurgical Industry Press.
