The Klassieker match between Ajax and Feyenoord, a highly anticipated football showdown, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30, at 6 p.m. at De Kuip in Rotterdam. This decision was made by the professional football competition board, comprising Marianne van Leeuwen (KNVB), Jan de Jong (Eredivisie CV), and Marc Boele (Keuken Kampioen Divisie), after consulting with the municipality of Rotterdam. The original match was set for Sunday, but it was canceled due to a planned police strike for an early retirement scheme that could not guarantee the safety of players and spectators around the stadium.

The rescheduled date was chosen to ensure that there is at least two days of rest between matches for both clubs. Feyenoord and Ajax have matches scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday in the Champions League and Thursday in the Europa League, respectively. This date also avoids clashes with other upcoming matches for both teams. The decision to move the match was made considering the match day calendar of Dutch professional football.

Despite the inconvenience caused by the police strike, Feyenoord and Ajax would have preferred to play on the originally scheduled Sunday. The police presence required for the Klassieker is substantial, as incidents have occurred in the past during charged encounters between the two teams. The KNVB, Eredivisie CV, and Keuken Kampioen Divisie have expressed their dissatisfaction with football being impacted by police actions and have stated that football should not be used as a means to address other issues.

The police strike for an early retirement scheme has led to a ban on the first top match of the new Eredivisie season, affecting the safety and organization of the match. This situation has also highlighted the impact of police actions on football, which is not intended to be a victim of such events.
