The diverse,integrated, and experiential consumption scenarios offered by the night economy help expand consumption space, better meet the needs of consumer upgrades, unleash consumption potential, increase employment opportunities, and promote urban economic growth.
This aligns with the Chinese government’s strategy to expand domestic demand, as outlined in the Opinions on Promoting High-QualityDevelopment of Service Consumption issued by the State Council. This document calls for the innovative and regulated development of national-level night-time cultural and tourism consumption clusters.
While many regions in China are actively promoting the development of their night economies, a challenge arises from the potential for homogenization and a lack ofdiverse and high-quality offerings to meet the increasingly varied demands of night-time consumers.
Liang Wei emphasizes the importance of local governments going beyond simply providing catering, entertainment, and shopping options. They should delve deeper into local history, culture, and artistic resources to create diverse, differentiated, and personalized consumption scenarios,enriching the consumer experience, he said. Simultaneously, promoting the integration of commerce, tourism, culture, and entertainment to create one-stop night-time consumption and experience venues is crucial.
In Jingdezhen, a city renowned for its porcelain artistry in Jiangxi province, the Taoxichuan Cultural andCreative District is a prime example of this approach. Every weekend evening, the district buzzes with visitors drawn to its exquisite ceramics and charming atmosphere. Rows of colorful tents lining the streets create a unique and captivating visual spectacle.
The digital age has further intertwined the development of the night economy with the internet and e-commerce. New technologies like the internet and big data not only enhance the experience of night-time consumption but also elevate the management and service levels of the night economy.
