China Welcomes Back Foreign Tourists, Attributing Surge to Open Policies and Improved Services

Beijing, August 27, 2024 -China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its delight at the increasing number of foreign tourists returning to the country, highlighting the growing popularity of China trips and welcoming visitors back with open arms. The ministry attributed this surge in tourism to the country’s ongoing commitment to opening up and its continuous efforts to improveservices for international travelers.

During a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed the increasing number of foreign tourists who are not only visiting China but also becoming repeat customers, returning for multiple trips.

I have alsoseen many foreign bloggers making videos while traveling in China, and I have seen more and more foreign friends coming to China and falling in love with China, Lin said. In the first seven months of this year, the number of foreigners enteringChina through various ports exceeded 17 million, a year-on-year increase of 129.9%. Currently, the number of international passenger flights per week exceeds 6,300, an increase of nearly 10% since the end of June. This shows us the overwhelming enthusiasm offoreign friends for traveling to China.

Lin attributed this growing enthusiasm to China’s continued open-door policies and its dedication to enhancing services for foreign visitors. He highlighted several key initiatives that have contributed to this trend:

  • Visa-free entry for 15 countries: China has implemented a 15-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of 15 countries.
  • Mutual visa exemption agreements: The country has expanded its mutual visa exemption agreements with six countries, including Singapore and Thailand.
  • Expanded 144-hour visa-free transit policy: China has increased the scope of its144-hour visa-free transit policy to 37 ports, encompassing 54 countries.
  • Improved payment services: China has continuously optimized its payment services for foreign visitors, making it easier for them to navigate the country’s financial systems.

These measures have not only made it easierfor foreign visitors to explore China’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage, but they have also fostered stronger connections between China and the world, demonstrating the country’s commitment to expanding its global engagement.
