The opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Youth Exchange Camp took place on August 26th at the Science and Art Center of Xiamen University, with 24 young representatives from China and the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participating in the event.

The camp, jointly organized by the ASEAN Foundation and Xiamen University, with the support and guidance of the Chinese Mission to ASEAN, is aimed at fostering deeper understanding and cooperation between the youth of China and ASEAN nations. The program, which will feature visits to the university, lectures on China’s digital economy and governance, as well as cultural exchanges, is expected to contribute significantly to the strengthening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.

During the opening ceremony, notable attendees included Fitriana Valencia, an observer from the ASEAN Secretariat, Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, Professor Shi Dalian, Vice President of Xiamen University, Professor Gao Yanjie, Dean of the School of International Relations and the Nanyang Research Institute, Deputy Director Liu Wanyu from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Deputy Secretary Wu Guangxi from the Communist Youth League of Xiamen University.

In her address, Dr. Piti Srisangnam highlighted the continuous efforts of ASEAN to promote human resource development and sustainable growth in its relationship with China. She emphasized that this event would help young participants gain a deeper insight into the digital economy and cooperation between China and ASEAN.

Professor Shi Dalian shared the historical and cultural ties between Xiamen University and Southeast Asia, and the university’s contributions to educational and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN. He expressed his anticipation for a successful event that would further enhance people-to-people connectivity, youth collaboration, and cultural exchanges between the two regions.

Nur Farahiya, a representative from Brunei, shared her thoughts and experiences from the opening ceremony, reflecting on the significance of the event for the participating youth.

Over the course of the exchange camp, participants will not only attend lectures and discussions on topics such as China’s digital economy and its relationship with ASEAN in the digital age but also visit local digital enterprises, traditional fishing villages, and world heritage sites. These experiences will provide them with a firsthand look at China’s development achievements and deepen cooperation in areas such as youth, education, and culture.
