News Content:

Recently, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine held a press conference to officially release the “Action Plan for the Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2024-2026),” marking a new phase in the development of TCM standardization work. The release of this action plan aims to enhance the standardization level of TCM by optimizing the TCM standard system, strengthening the supply of standards in key areas, and promoting the interactive development of standards and technological innovation, thereby providing technical support for the high-quality development of TCM.

As of now, China has established a standard system centered on national TCM standards, industry standards, local standards, group standards, and international TCM standards, with a total number of standards exceeding 3,000. This system not only provides a solid foundation for the inheritance and development of TCM but also ensures its standard-based path to the world and participation in international exchanges and cooperation.

Zhu Gui, the Commissioner of the Policy, Law and Supervision Department of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stated that the standardization of TCM is the technical support for its high-quality development and the foundational system for modernizing the governance system and capacity of the TCM industry. In the future, TCM standardization work will focus more on the leading role of high-quality standards, promoting the deep integration of TCM standardization with technological innovation, and injecting new momentum into the modernization and internationalization of TCM.

Zhang Boli, a Master of Chinese Medicine and the Chairman of the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, pointed out that TCM standardization must keep pace with the times and make full use of modern technological means such as the internet, big data, and AI artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency of standard formulation and implementation. He emphasized that the formulation of TCM standards should follow the principle of “three-cause suitability,” i.e., suitability for individuals, locations, and times, to ensure the scientific and applicable nature of the standards.

The release of the Action Plan for the Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine is not only a summary and affirmation of past TCM standardization work but also a plan and outlook for future development. As TCM standardization work continues to deepen, the internationalization of TCM will also be further promoted, contributing more significantly to global public health.
