SYDNEY, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — A new exhibition and symposium titled “Art New Voices” was held at the Sydney CBD Gallery on August 10 to further promote the development of emerging artists from Australia. The exhibition, which featured nearly 30 pieces of art by four emerging artists from the National Art School, included works by Australian artist Michelle, who specializes in silk plant dyeing.

Zhang Xiaoxiao, the Chinese founder of the CBD Gallery, told the reporter during an interview that she has lived and studied in Sydney for 15 years and has a profound emotional connection and great passion for both Eastern and Western art. She established the CBD Gallery in the heart of Sydney in May 2023, focusing on local contemporary art and committed to nurturing the professional development of emerging artists. She believes that Chinese aesthetics have had a profound impact on contemporary Australian art, with many Australian artists incorporating Eastern elements into their creative processes and material choices. This is a prime example of cultural fusion in the global art market. She hopes that her gallery can grow alongside the artists and mutually contribute to their success, blending Eastern and Western aesthetics, adding color to Australia’s multicultural society, and contributing to the future of art exchange between China and Australia.

Michelle, who was present at the symposium, expressed that she was deeply attracted to the softness and elegance of silk, combined with her early life in Asia, which made her proficient in silk artistry. She once represented Australia in the Miss World pageant in 1994 and subsequently became a well-known film star. Her unique life experiences also brought her a lot of pressure, so she began to seek healing in art creation, blending the shapes and colors of Australian native plants with the delicate beauty of Chinese silk through dyeing techniques, creating a unique seasonal floral silk weaving art realm. Michelle’s works are loved by many Chinese collectors, and during the symposium, she expressed her great honor to be recognized by Chinese art enthusiasts for her silk creations.

It is reported that the exhibition will continue until August 17.
