第五届木兰国际电影节在加拿大多伦多揭幕
中新社多伦多8月9日电 (记者 余瑞冬)第五届木兰国际电影节8月9日在加拿大知名学府多伦多大学校园内揭幕。为期9天的本届木兰国际电影节将展映44部来自中国内地、香港、台湾,以及东南亚、北美及欧洲等的华语电影长片与短片作品。
开幕影片是台湾导演、演员李鸿其自编、自导、自演的处女作《爱是一把枪》。该片去年曾在威尼斯电影节首映并获“未来之狮”奖。中国内地导演梁鸣的《逍遥·游》被选定为闭幕电影。部分影片展映期间,导演将与观众进行线上或现场问答互动。
木兰国际电影节设有“源泉”“莉莉对利维坦”“阴阳”等多个展映单元。在聚焦新兴导演及其原创作品的“源泉”竞赛单元中,8部入围短片将角逐由评审团颁发的“最佳短片评审团奖”以及由观众评选的“观众选择奖”。
电影节还将举办多场促进电影人、评论人、策展人与影迷等之间交流的“深度对谈”行业活动,聚焦新兴电影人所面临的挑战以及华语电影行业现状。
木兰国际电影节艺术总监沈玮介绍说,本届电影节首次推出“剧情长片首作开发实验室”项目,对入选的新导演的首部中文剧情长片项目提供指导和支持。
中国驻多伦多总领馆参赞衔领事王彦军称赞,本届木兰电影节以“破”为主视觉,彰显创新之意。该电影节已成为一群有理想的年轻电影人的“寻梦单元”。
多伦多的一群华人青年在2018年创办木兰国际电影节,旨在通过电影展映、展览、研讨会、论坛等方式,促进加拿大观众对华语电影的关注,提升观众鉴赏能力,并激发他们思考和讨论亟待解决的世界性问题。该电影节每年8月在多伦多举行,同时亦有全年展映项目。

News Content: The Fifth Mǎláng International Film Festival kicked off on August 9 at the campus of the prestigious University of Toronto in Canada. The nine-day festival will showcase 44 Chinese-language feature and short films from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, as well as Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe.
The opening film is the directorial debut of Taiwanese actor-director Hong Qi, titled “Love Is a Gun,” which was written, directed, and starred by Hong Qi himself. The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last year, won the “Future Lion” award. The closing film is Chéng Míng’s “Xiāoyáng·Yóu” from mainland China. During the screening of some films, directors will engage in online or in-person Q&A sessions with audiences.
The Mǎláng International Film Festival features multiple screening sections, including “Source,” “Li Li Against Leviathan,” and “Yīnyáng.” In the “Source” competition section, which focuses on emerging directors and their original works, eight short films in contention for the “Best Short Film Jury Award” presented by the jury and the “Audience Choice Award” voted by the audience.
The festival will also host numerous “Deep Talks” industry events aimed at fostering exchanges among filmmakers, critics, curators, and film enthusiasts, focusing on the challenges faced by emerging filmmakers and the current state of the Chinese-language film industry.
Mǎláng International Film Festival Artistic Director Shen Wei introduced that the festival has launched a “Development Laboratory for Feature Film Debuts” project for the first time this year, providing guidance and support to the first Chinese-language feature film projects of selected new directors.
Consul General Wang Yanjun of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto praised the festival for its theme of “breaking through,” highlighting the spirit of innovation. The Mǎláng International Film Festival has become a “dream unit” for a group of young filmmakers with ideals.
The Mǎláng International Film Festival was founded by a group of young Chinese Canadians in 2018 with the aim of promoting Canadian audiences’ attention to Chinese-language films through film screenings, exhibitions, seminars, and forums, enhancing their appreciation, and stimulating their thinking and discussions on urgent global issues. The festival is held annually in Toronto in August and also features year-round screening projects.
