News Title: “New Discovery of Bacteria: A Safe Whitening Agent for Skin”

Keywords: Tyrosinase, Whitening, Safety

News Content:
Science and Technology Daily, (Reporter Zhang Jiaxin) Recently, a research team from Tokyo University of Science discovered a promising tyrosinase inhibitor from a common skin bacterium, Mycobacterium linens, which is found on human skin. This inhibitor can effectively suppress melanin synthesis, thus achieving a safe and effective whitening effect on the skin. The related research findings have been published in the journal “International Molecular Science.”

Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in the human body that produces melanin. When the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light, the activity of tyrosinase increases, leading to excessive production of melanin and causing the skin to darken. Therefore, tyrosinase inhibitors are widely used in the cosmetics industry for skin whitening. However, some traditional whitening ingredients, such as hydroquinone, have been restricted due to their toxicity to the skin.

The researchers screened over 100 types of skin bacteria and found that Mycobacterium linens can produce a potent tyrosinase inhibitor called cyclo(proline-tyrosine). Experiments showed that this compound is non-toxic to human cells and has antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities, suggesting a broad application potential.

Although this discovery is exciting, more research is needed to translate it into a practical whitening product, including safety assessments, determination of dosage, and clinical trials. The researchers stated that as the research progresses, this natural whitening ingredient extracted from bacteria has the potential to offer consumers a safer and more effective option.
