The 2024 Digital Low-Altitude Summit was held in Shenzhen, focusing on the digital development of the low-altitude economy.
On August 2, the 2024 Digital Low-Altitude Summit was held in a grand ceremony at the Qilinshan Manor in Shenzhen. The event was co-hosted by the Pengcheng Laboratory and the Future Mobile Communication Forum. The summit, themed “Ensuring the Digital Foundation to Drive Low-Altitude Development,” attracted experts and representatives from various fields, including civil aviation, wireless radio, information and communication technology (ICT), and low-altitude application industries, to discuss the hottest topics in the digital development of the low-altitude economy.
At the summit, Gao Wen, Director of the Pengcheng Laboratory and a Chinese Academy of Engineering academician, proposed that to push for the high-quality development of the low-altitude economy, three foundations need to be solidified: policy, digital technology, and service. He pointed out that while the foundation of China’s low-altitude economy has gradually solidified under the promotion of relevant state departments and the community, there are still deficiencies in the existing 4G and 5G networks in adapting to the needs of the low-altitude economy, lacking necessary perception capabilities and the ability to effectively monitor activities in the airspace. Therefore, the development of low-altitude networks needs to possess perception capabilities to identify and monitor drones and other flying objects in the airspace, which is currently a major technical bottleneck in the development of the low-altitude economy.
In addition, Academician Yousha Hu presented a report titled “6G and Low-Altitude Internet,” where he introduced that the application of 6G technology is bringing benefits to the low-altitude economy. Cell-free millimeter wave communication and perception integration technology can significantly enhance the 5G communication and perception capabilities, offering a promising technical route for the infrastructure construction of low-altitude ICT. This technology has been validated in applications with ultra-long-distance wide-area coverage, including in fishery administration, urban governance, and pipeline inspection.
During the summit, the Digital Low-Altitude Working Group (DLAWG) was officially established and proposed the goal of promoting low-altitude scenarios as typical 6G scenarios and applications, contributing to the formulation of 6G standards. The working group is dedicated to promoting the formation of a technical architecture system for low-altitude intelligent information infrastructure, advancing the establishment of standards and norms, pushing forward system testing and evaluation, forming a certification mechanism, and promoting the construction of a low-altitude economic industrial ecology.
The successful hosting of this summit not only provided a platform for the development of the low-altitude economy but also offered new ideas and directions for the application and innovation of digital technologies in the low-altitude field. As digital technologies continue to advance, the low-altitude economy is expected to enjoy a more extensive development outlook.
