Over 90 students and teachers from Taiwan joined their mainland counterparts in embarking on a 7-day cultural journey. At the opening ceremony, Tseng Shih Wei, a student from Taichung’s Second Junior High School, expressed his keen interest in the trip. He looks forward to discovering the unique beauty of Yunnan’s natural scenery and experiencing the diverse ethnic cultures firsthand.

The summer camp’s itinerary is rich and varied, designed to immerse the youth from both sides of the strait in their respective cultures. Participants will visit Kunming and Yuxi, where they will engage in Chinese painting workshops and appreciate the allure of Yunnan’s ethnic music and dances. They will also visit the Yunnan Provincial Museum, the Five Trees Unity and Progress Township, the site of the Southwest Associated University, and the Yunnan Army War College Historical Museum, gaining an up-close look at the ethnic customs and profound cultural heritage of Yunnan.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Province Taiwan Affairs Office, Cui Bingcheng, emphasized the unique natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Yunnan, hoping that Taiwanese young students would gain a deeper understanding of Yunnan’s history and culture, and appreciate the charm of Chinese traditional culture, fostering a sense of emotional resonance with the “one family across the strait”.

Leading the delegation from the Taiwan Culture and Education Exchange Association, Wu Qianyi, expressed that this summer camp marked the first time Taiwanese students had ventured into Yunnan. Through their visits and learning, she hopes that Taiwanese students will witness the rapid development of the mainland with their own eyes, deepening their cultural identity as being from the same root and source.

The 2024 Yun-Tai Junior High School Youth Summer Camp, not only a cultural exchange event, but also a bridge for young people from both sides to deepen their understanding and friendship.
