Hangzhou, Zhejiang, May 25 (Lin Bo) – From May 24 to 26, the “Now in Shaoxing, Meet the Future” Youth City Multi-media Field Trip event was held in Shaoxing District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. During this period, representatives of overseas Chinese media and “foreign disciples” from Japan, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and other countries visited the Lize Street in Shaoxing, where they experienced the intangible cultural heritage projects – Hangzhou Embroidery and Indigo Dyeing, and felt the unique charm of China’s folk culture.
At the Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Center on Lize Street, the “foreign disciples” were captivated by the exquisite Hangzhou Embroidery pieces. Hangzhou Embroidery, with a long history, is renowned for its fine needlework and vibrant colors, and is one of the representatives of traditional handicrafts in Zhejiang. Under the guidance of professional embroiderers, the “foreign disciples” took the initiative to try their hand at embroidering traditional patterns onto silk fabric. Despite their lack of skill, their earnest attitudes and love for traditional culture made the entire experience full of joy.
In addition to Hangzhou Embroidery, the “foreign disciples” also learned about the technique of indigo dyeing. Indigo dyeing is an ancient dyeing technique, which uses Indigofera tinctoria as the main raw material, and the dyed fabric has a stable color with a unique artistic effect. In the indigo dyeing workshop, the “foreign disciples” learned about the collection of raw materials, fermentation, dyeing, and other processes, and personally created their own indigo dyeing works.
This activity not only allowed the “foreign disciples” to appreciate the profound cultural heritage of China but also deepened their understanding and recognition of Chinese civilization. Through direct experience, they gained a more direct feeling for the inheritance and development of China’s intangible cultural heritage, and they hoped to spread these precious cultural heritages to the world through their reports.
