The 7th Annual Conference of the General Education Alliance of Chinese Universities, hosted by Sun Yat-sen University, kicked off on the South Campus in Guangzhou on the 18th. This grand event brought together over 350 educational experts and scholars from more than 100 universities across China to the historic academic hall of康乐园, delving into the current state of general education in China and planning the future development of higher education together.
The theme of this year’s conference focuses on the practice and innovation in general education, aiming to promote the reform of general education in Chinese higher education and enhance the quality of talent cultivation. The experts present come from various fields, including humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering technology. They shared their latest research findings and teaching experience in general education through keynote speeches, roundtable discussions, and workshops.
The President of Sun Yat-sen University delivered a speech with the theme of “General Education: The Key to Nurturing Future Leaders in Society,” emphasizing the importance of general education in cultivating critical thinking, innovative capabilities, and cross-cultural communication skills in students. He pointed out that in the face of global challenges and diverse development needs, general education should become the core of higher education reform, promoting comprehensive development of students.
