LHASA, March 20 (Xinhua) — The Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Tibet Autonomous Region introduced at a press conference marking the 65th anniversary of democratic reform in Tibet on March 20 that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, direct elections at the county and township levels in Tibet have seen a participation rate of 90 percent, with some areas reaching 100 percent. Currently, the total number of four-level people’s congress representatives in Tibet exceeds 42,000, among which representatives from the Tibetan and other ethnic minorities account for 89.2 percent, reflecting the political participation and ethnic diversity in Tibet since the democratic reform 65 years ago.
