BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) — The Serbian section of the Hungary-Serbia railway, a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) between China and countries in Central and Eastern Europe, has been operating safely and smoothly for two years, according to a statement released by the WeChat account of China Railway on Saturday.
The section between Belgrade and Novi Sad was officially put into operation on Dec. 19, 2020, after years of joint efforts by Chinese and Serbian builders.
Over the past two years, the railway has transported more than 6.83 million passengers, significantly improving travel convenience for local residents and contributing positively to Serbia’s infrastructure development and economic and social progress.
The successful implementation of the Hungary-Serbia railway project not only enhances China-Serbia cooperation in infrastructure, but also opens up new avenues for cooperation between China and countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
