BANGKOK, March 6 (Xinhua) — Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports announced on Monday that the country received 6.38 million foreign tourists in the firsttwo months of this year, a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.
The robust growth indicates that Thailand’s tourism industry is strongly recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of Chinese tourists is one of the major factors driving the growth. Data showed that 228,000 Chinese tourists visited Thailand in the first two months of this year, a 12.9% increase year-on-year.
Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, said the government has taken a series of measures to boost tourism recovery,including easing entry restrictions, launching tourism promotion campaigns, and upgrading tourism infrastructure.
