A significant breakthrough by Chinese researchers has been published in the renowned academic journal “Nature”, revealing the preliminary establishment of a genetic database of aquatic microorganisms in the Tibetan Plateau. The research team collected 498 environmental DNA samples from six different aquatic ecosystems in the Tibetan Plateau, including wetlands, freshwater lakes, saltwater lakes, rivers, hot springs, and glaciers. Through metagenomic sequencing of these samples, the researchers successfully constructed a valuable gene resource library of aquatic microorganisms.
