Windows 11’s Built-in Mail and Calendar App to Be Discontinued in2024
Microsoft is phasing out its native Mail and Calendar appon Windows 11, with the service set to cease operation on December 31, 2024. This decision comes after months of persistentpop-ups urging users to switch to the web-based Outlook within Windows 11.
A new support document released by Microsoft confirms the impending discontinuation. Users will no longer be able to send or receive emails using the Windows Mail and Calendar app after the deadline.
While the exact details of the support termination remain unclear, Microsoft is likely to push out updates thatrender the app unusable. It is possible that Outlook will stop accepting connection requests from the Mail & Calendar app.
The transition to Outlook has been ongoing for some time. Users have been encountering pop-ups within the Mail and Calendar app, titled Mail and Calendar is becoming Outlook, with an exclamation mark.
While users can choose to open the new Outlook or decline, the latter option is effectively meaningless. The app will automatically redirect users to the new Outlook upon reopening.
It’s worth noting that users can still switch back to the Mailand Calendar app by unchecking the New Outlook toggle. However, this is a temporary solution as Microsoft will continue redirecting users to the new Outlook.
The phasing out of the Mail and Calendar app marks a significant shift in Microsoft’s approach to email and calendar management on Windows 11.The company is clearly pushing users towards its web-based Outlook platform, potentially for reasons of streamlining services and improving user experience.
Users are advised to familiarize themselves with the new Outlook interface and transition their email and calendar data before the December 31, 2024 deadline.
