Germany’s Military Aid to Ukraine Takes a New Turn: Rheinmetall Builds Factories, Delivers Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicles
Berlin, Germany -In a significant development, Germany’s largest military industrial group, Rheinmetall, has begun production of its flagship Lynx infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine. Thismove marks a shift in Germany’s military support for Ukraine, moving beyond direct weapon deliveries to empowering the country to produce its own defense equipment.
Germany hasbeen one of the largest contributors to Ukraine’s defense efforts, providing nearly €8 billion in aid in the first ten months of 2024 alone. However, with budget constraints looming, Germany has pledged to invest in Ukrainian manufacturingcapabilities to ensure long-term support.
Rheinmetall has established four factories in Ukraine, with production lines dedicated to various military equipment, including Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition, and even anti-aircraft missiles. The Lynx infantry fighting vehicle,a key product of Rheinmetall, is known for its advanced technology and firepower. The vehicle comes in two variants: the lighter KF-31 and the heavier KF-41, both equipped with powerful cannons and sophisticated targeting systems.
The establishment of these factories represents a significant investment by Rheinmetall in Ukraine’sfuture. The company has been actively involved in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts since the beginning of the conflict, supplying Leopard tanks, Cheetah anti-aircraft vehicles, and ammunition.
