Djokovic Advances to Wimbledon Semifinals as De Minaur Withdraws

LONDON – Novak Djokovic, the reigning Wimbledon champion and 23-time Grand Slamwinner, will face Jannik Sinner in the semifinals after his opponent, Alex de Minaur, withdrew from their quarterfinal match due to a stomach illness.

De Minaur, the 18th seed, was visibly struggling throughout the first set, which Djokovic won 6-2. The Australian called for a medical timeoutafter the first set, and despite receiving treatment, he was unable to continue.

Djokovic, who is seeking his eighth Wimbledon title, has now reached the semifinals of the tournament for the 13th time. He will face Sinner, the 8th seed, who defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets earlier in the day.

The match between Djokovic and Sinner promises to be a thrilling encounter. Djokovic has a strong record against Sinner, having won all three of their previous meetings. However, Sinner has been in excellent formthis tournament and will be looking to upset the Serbian.

The Wimbledon semifinals will take place on Friday, July 14th. The winner of the Djokovic-Sinner match will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev in the final.

This unexpected development adds another layer of intrigue to the men’s singlesdraw at Wimbledon. Djokovic, the tournament favorite, is now one step closer to securing his eighth Wimbledon title and his 24th Grand Slam singles championship, which would tie him with Margaret Court for the most all-time.
