Sonic Team Confirms Continued Support for Older Consoles in Upcoming Games

Sonicthe Hedgehog fans rejoice! Despite the advent of powerful new consoles like the PS5Pro, the iconic blue blur’s developers at Sonic Team have confirmed their commitment to supporting older generation consoles in upcoming games.

In a recent interview, Takashi Iizuka, the producer of the Sonic franchise, stated that while newer consoles offer the potential to showcase Sonic’s speed in unprecedented ways, the team remains dedicated toensuring accessibility for players with older hardware. Iizuka emphasized the importance of finding a balance between pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on high-end systems and maintaining a wide player base.

There are high-end devices and consolesin the market that can be used to develop new games that better showcase Sonic’s speed, Iizuka said. The Sonic series will seek the best balance between high-end and low-end consoles.

This commitment to older consolesis particularly notable given the imminent release of the PS5 Pro, which is expected to be a significant upgrade over the standard PS5. While acknowledging the PS5 Pro’s higher price point, Iizuka believes it offers exceptional value for high-end gamers. However, he stressed the importance of supporting players with less powerfulhardware, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the Sonic experience.

This news comes as a welcome surprise for many fans who have expressed concerns about the future of the Sonic franchise on older consoles. The recent re-release of Sonic Generations as part of the Sonic Origins collection on the Xbox store, along with the upcoming release ofSonic Frontiers on a wide range of platforms, including older consoles, further reinforces Sonic Team’s dedication to inclusivity.

With the Sonic series continuing to evolve and innovate, this commitment to supporting older consoles ensures that a wider audience can experience the thrill of Sonic’s adventures. As the franchise continues to grow,Sonic Team’s dedication to accessibility will undoubtedly play a key role in its continued success.
