Trump Claims Good Relationship with Putin During Meeting with Zelensky
New York, NY – Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyat Trump Tower in New York City on Wednesday, September 27th. During a press conference prior to their meeting, Trump reiterated his previous claims that hecould swiftly end the Russo-Ukrainian conflict if re-elected, adding that he has a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Our relationship isvery good, and as you know, I have a very good relationship with President Putin, Trump stated. I think if we win [the election], we’ll be able to solve this [the conflict] very quickly.
Zelensky interjected, I hope we have a better relationship.
Oh, I know, Trump responded. It takes two to tango. You know, we’ll – we’ll have a very good meeting today. I thinkit’s a very good sign that we’re here together today.
The meeting comes amidst growing tension between Trump and Zelensky. Recent public statements by Zelensky and his perceived closeness with the Democratic party have angered Republicans, including Trump. On September 25th, Trump publicly accused Zelensky of maliciously slanderinghim and initially threatened to cancel their meeting.
