McLaren Unveils W1, the Heir to Legendary F1 and P1Supercars, Set to Debut October 6th
London, UK– McLaren Automotive has officially announced the successor to its iconic 1 series, a lineage that includes the legendary F1 and the P1 hypercars. Thenew model, dubbed W1, will make its global debut on October 6th, 2024, at 1 PM BST (8 PMBeijing Time).
This highly anticipated vehicle marks the next chapter in McLaren’s pursuit of ultimate performance and innovation. The McLaren W1 adheres to the principles of a true supercar and is the ultimate expression of a McLaren hypercar,stated Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive. Drawing on our rich racing heritage and world-championship mentality, the W1 pushes the boundaries of performance and is worthy of the ‘1’ designation. Like its predecessors, the F1and McLaren P1, the W1 redefines the rules of what a true supercar can be.
The W1 will feature McLaren’s latest design language and boast a cutting-edge V8 hybrid powertrain. The company has remained tight-lipped about specific details, but the anticipation is palpable.
The McLaren P1, launched in 2013, combined a 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 916 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. It was widely acclaimed alongside the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder, forming the Holy Trinity of hypercars.
With the W1’s arrival, the hypercar landscape is set to be redefined once again. The successors to the LaFerrari (codenamed F250) and the 918 Spyder (Mission X) are also indevelopment, promising an exciting future for the supercar segment.
