Tripartite Environmental Cooperation: South Korea, China, and Japan to Meet inJeju for 25th Ministerial Conference
Seoul, South Korea – The 25th Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting between South Korea, China, and Japan will be held in Jeju City, South Korea, fromSeptember 28th to 29th. The meeting will take place at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo.
This gatheringmarks a significant milestone in trilateral environmental cooperation, with the three nations coming together to review progress made in eight key areas, including climate change and biodiversity. The meeting will culminate in the adoption and signing of the Joint Communique of the25th Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting.
Looking ahead, the ministers will engage in discussions to formulate a new Joint Action Plan for Trilateral Environmental Cooperation to replace the current plan, which is set to expire next year. Thenew plan is expected to consolidate the eight existing cooperation areas into a more streamlined framework, focusing on enhancing environmental quality.
The upcoming meeting comes on the heels of the 24th Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting, which was held in Nagoya, Japan, in November 2023. This previous meeting saw theparticipation of then-South Korean Environment Minister Han Wha-jin, Japanese Environment Minister Shinjiro Ito, and Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu.
The trilateral environmental cooperation framework has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between South Korea, China, and Japan on critical environmental issues. The upcoming meeting in Jeju isanticipated to further strengthen this partnership and pave the way for a more sustainable future for the region.
