BMW 225i Gets the Green Light: New Model Passes China’sEmission Standards, Expected to Launch Soon
BEIJING, CHINA – Thehighly anticipated new BMW 225i has received certification for China’s stringent National VI B emission standards, paving the way for its imminent launch in theChinese market.
The new model, powered by the familiar B48B20A 2.0T engine, is expected to hit dealershipssoon. As a reference, the current 2023 BMW 225i Coupe is priced at 302,900 yuan (approximately $42,000 USD).
Design Updates andFeature Enhancements
The new BMW 225i is expected to adopt a design language similar to the recently unveiled M240i, featuring a chrome-trimmed double kidney grille outline, and body-colored sideand rear skirts. The black high-gloss area of the rear diffuser will be smaller.
Standard equipment will include an M Sport package, featuring larger air intakes, side skirts, a boot lid spoiler, and a rear diffuser-style trim. The vehicle will be available in a range of colors, including Alpine White, MineralWhite, Sapphire Black, Portimao Blue, Thundernight Metallic, Brooklyn Grey, and the newly added Zandvoort Blue, Flamenco Red, and Skyscraper Grey.
The interior is expected to feature a dual-screen setup, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. The infotainment system will be upgraded to BMW Operating System 8.5, supporting features like climate control and voice interaction.
Further enhancing the interior experience, the new 225i will include waterfall-style ambient lighting around the central air vents, offering nine color options andthe ability to sync with other ambient lighting zones.
Familiar Powertrain
Under the hood, the new BMW 225i will retain the same B48B20A 2.0T engine found in the 2023 model, generating 135 kW (184 hp) of power and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. Power will be delivered through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Competition in the Chinese Market
In the Chinese market, the BMW 2 Series Coupe (225i) faces competition from the Toyota86 (starting at 338,600 yuan) and the Subaru BRZ (starting at 299,800 yuan).
Future Plans
Reports suggest that the long-wheelbase version of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (codenamed F78) is expectedto be produced by Brilliance BMW in early 2025. The current BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be discontinued in August, with the new model expected to debut in October.
