GUANGZHOU, China — The 10th Guangzhou International Fishing Expo and the 2024 Guangzhou International Marine Ranch Expo kicked off on September 25 at the Canton Exhibition Center in Guangzhou, showcasing a wide variety of aquatic products and marine ranching equipment from both domestic and international companies.

The exhibition, which attracted over a hundred species of seafood and marine ranching equipment, featured a range of live and fresh seafood including rare treasures like Alaskan king crab, Boston lobster, and live yellow crab from the renowned Golden Crab Homeland of Guangzhou’s Nanhai District. Other notable products included sea cucumbers from Yantai, stinky eels from Anhui, abalone from Fujian, crayfish from Qianjiang, green crabs from Nansha, and oysters from Zhanjiang.

According to Liu Rui昌, operations manager of the Guangzhou Huangyou Crab Aquatic Products Co., Ltd., the company has a ten-thousand mu (about 1,600 acres) of breeding base in the Golden Crab Homeland of Nanhai. This year, due to favorable climate conditions, the quality of Nanhai yellow crabs has improved, leading to a price increase. A single yellow crab can now be sold for hundreds to over a thousand yuan in major cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing, and even exported to countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

The yellow crab is known as the crab of茅台 (Taikang) for its golden yellow oil-like substance that infuses the entire body, providing a rich and unique taste. Among these, the head and hand yellow crabs, which contain over 80% oil content, are considered the premium grade. These crabs are highly selective in their breeding environment.

In addition to a wide array of aquatic products, the exhibition also showcased advanced marine ranching technologies and equipment, such as deep-sea aquaculture nets, deep-water anti-wind wave nets, and underwater robots.

The event, organized by the Guangzhou International Fishing Expo and the Guangzhou International Marine Ranch Expo, aims to promote the development of the fishing industry and marine ranching in Guangdong and beyond. The exhibition not only offers a platform for companies to showcase their products and technologies but also provides a venue for industry experts and scholars to discuss the latest trends and challenges in the sector.

With a focus on sustainable development and innovation, the expo serves as a significant milestone in the growth of the Guangdong fishing and marine ranching industry. It highlights the region’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies and high-quality products to meet the growing demand for fresh and healthy seafood.

The opening of the Guangzhou International Fishing Expo and the 2024 Guangzhou International Marine Ranch Expo marks a new chapter in the development of the fishing and marine ranching industries in Guangdong, fostering international cooperation and driving economic growth through the promotion of high-quality products and cutting-edge technologies.
