Sichuan Unveils Third Batch of Cases in Clean Ecology, Promote Development Campaignto Optimize Business Network Environment
Chengdu, Sichuan Province – In acontinued effort to foster a healthy and supportive online environment for businesses, the Sichuan Provincial Cyberspace Administration has released the third batch of typical cases under its Clean Ecology, Promote Development campaign. This initiative aims to optimize the business network environment by tackling online information that infringes upon the rights and interests of enterprises and entrepreneurs.
Since its launch, the campaign has received 6,873 reports of online infringement related to businesses, resulting in the removal of 4,476 pieces of information, the suspension of 159 accounts, and the closure of21 websites engaging in counterfeiting and imitation. This action has effectively protected the legitimate rights of 435 companies.
The recently announced cases highlight the diverse nature of online infringement targeting businesses:
Case 1: Distorting Company Financial Data to Mislead the Public
A state-owned enterprise in Sichuan reported a self-media account for distorting its financial data and maliciously spreading rumors about significant losses after the company was taken over. The company provided evidence proving that the reported loss figures were inaccurate. After comprehensive assessment, the cyberspace administrationurged the website platform to remove the false information.
Case 2: Counterfeiting a State-Owned Enterprise Account
A netizen reported a WeChat public account that had registered under the name of a Chengdu-based company, falsely claiming to be a state-owned enterprise. The account published misleading information. Upon investigation,no registration information was found for a state-owned enterprise with that name. The cyberspace administration subsequently closed the WeChat public account.
Case 3: Exploiting Normal Personnel Changes to Defame Company Prospects
A private enterprise in Sichuan reported a self-media account for maliciously exploiting normal personnel changes within the companyand spreading rumors about its future prospects. The account used exaggerated and negative language like plummeting and gambling to attract attention and traffic. After comprehensive assessment, the cyberspace administration urged the self-media account to rectify the inappropriate language in the article.
Case 4: Capitalizing onCompany Hotspots to Damage Entrepreneur Reputation
A state-owned enterprise in Sichuan reported a self-media account for exploiting the company’s leadership transition as a topic and publishing false information about the company’s key leaders. The account used statements like having gone through a turbulent year and employee salaries have significantly increased, which were clearly inconsistent with reality, to infringe upon the legitimate rights of the entrepreneur. After verifying the information with the company and its supervisory authority, the cyberspace administration urged the website platform to remove the false information.
Case 5: Distorting Company Annual Report to Interfere with Normal Business Operations
A financial enterprise in Sichuan reported a self-media account for maliciously interpreting the company’s annual report information. The account used eye-catching terms like bankruptcy and closure to exaggerate the company’s revenue situation and spread rumors about its future prospects. The cyberspace administration is currently investigating this case.
These cases demonstrate the proactive measures taken by the Sichuan Provincial Cyberspace Administration to address online infringement targeting businesses. The campaign’s success in removing harmful content and protecting the rights of companies showcases the importance of a healthy and regulated online environment for promoting business growth and development.
