Lenovo to Manufacture AI Servers in India, Establish AI Research Lab

Bangalore, India– Lenovo Group announced on Tuesday that it will begin manufacturing artificial intelligence (AI) serversat its factory in southern India and establish an AI server-focused research and development (R&D) lab in Bangalore. The move signifies Lenovo’s commitmentto bolstering its presence in the burgeoning Indian AI market and contributing to the country’s technological advancement.

Lenovo aims to produce 50,000AI rack servers and 2,400 graphics processing unit (GPU) servers annually at its facility in Puducherry, India. These servers are specifically designed for resource-intensive tasks like machine learning.

These servers will not only befor local consumption but also for export, said Amar Babu, Lenovo’s President for Asia Pacific, in a statement to Reuters. However, he declined to disclose any investment or hiring targets for the R&D lab or the Puducherry factory.

Lenovo already manufactures products like laptops at its Puducherry facility, making it a strategic location for expanding its manufacturing footprint in India.
