AZ Alkmaar Shatters Eredivisie Record with Dominant 9-1 Win Over Heerenveen; Feyenoord Struggles to Maintain Position

In a stunning Eredivisie clash, AZ Alkmaar shattered the record for the biggest win in the league’s history, defeating SC Heerenveen with a resounding 9-1 victory at the AFAS stadium. The match was marked by an early surge from the home side, with Irish striker Troy Parrot scoring four goals to lead the charge.

The match opened with a quickfire start, with the first goal scored in the fourth minute by Sven Mijnans, who managed to get a shot off the inside of the post. Heerenveen briefly equalized in the 19th minute with a Luuk Brouwers header, but AZ quickly regained the lead. Ibrahim Sadiq, who set up Parrot for his first Eredivisie goal, was instrumental in the Alkmaarders’ attack.

As the first half progressed, Heerenveen’s defensive vulnerabilities were exploited. Sadiq and Parrot combined for a second goal, with Sadiq’s pace and Parrot’s finishing skills proving too much for the Heerenveen defense. The match took a turn for the worse for the visitors as Parrot’s third and fourth goals, scored in the 56th and 72nd minutes respectively, solidified AZ’s dominance.

Additional goals from Mexx Meerdink, Kristijan Belic, and Zico Buurmeester sealed the victory, with AZ now sitting two points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven.

In other Eredivisie news, Feyenoord’s struggles continued as the team drew their third match in the first four games of the season under new manager Brian Priske. The Rotterdammers broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a Bart Nieuwkoop header, but Feyenoord’s inability to capitalize on opportunities led to a 2-0 lead by Igor Paixao in the 70th minute.

Groningen fought back, scoring twice in the final minutes to level the match, leaving Feyenoord fans and the club’s management feeling the pressure. Groningen now sits three points ahead of Feyenoord in third place, and the pressure is on Priske to turn the team’s fortunes around.

As the Eredivisie continues, the spotlight remains on AZ Alkmaar’s historic win and Feyenoord’s need for a strong performance to improve their standing under Priske’s management.
