Guangzhou, China – September 7, 2024
The Guangdong Power Grid Company of the Southern Power Grid announced on September 7 that it has lowered the emergency response level for wind and flood prevention from Level I to Level III at 12:00 pm. By 4:00 pm on the same day, over 60% of the 7.23 million users affected by the typhoon had resumed power supply.
The announcement came as Super Typhoon Mojito caused severe damage to power grid equipment in the affected regions. The Southern Power Grid Guangdong Power Grid Company immediately organized post-disaster repair and restoration efforts upon having the conditions for repairs, working tirelessly to minimize the loss caused by the disaster.
The Guangdong Power Grid has mobilized a total of 6,936 repair personnel, 1,606 repair vehicles, 134 emergency power generators, and 426 emergency generators.

The emergency command center of the Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau had arranged for the emergency power generator from the Guangdong Qingyuan Power Supply Bureau of the Southern Power Grid to be connected to Xuwen County People’s Hospital on September 6 to ensure uninterrupted power supply for emergency surgeries. However, late at night, strong winds continued to batter the area, causing heavy objects to fall from heights and smash the roof of the power generator, rendering the generator inoperable.
The support team from the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau of the Southern Power Grid was promptly dispatched with an emergency power generator to Xuwen County People’s Hospital to ensure the smooth conduct of urgent surgeries. Subsequently, the emergency command center of the Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau sent an additional emergency power generator.
The Emergency Special Operations Team of the Southern Power Grid (Guangdong) Comprehensive Emergency Base had transported 131 sets of emergency equipment across six categories to Hainan, Zhanjiang, and Maoming before the typhoon struck.
On September 7, at 10:00 am, the emergency command center of the Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau, based on real-time images transmitted by drones, determined that the road surface in Xuwen County, Zhanjiang, was severely flooded due to heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon, making it impassable. The disaster response and power restoration teams utilized laser obstacle removal equipment and drones in coordination during the lull in the rain to successfully address the hazard.
This report is a testament to the resilience and efficiency of the Guangdong Power Grid in the face of natural disasters, as they work tirelessly to restore power to affected users and ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
