Small Yang Brother’s Pork and Cabbage Rolls Refund Amidst CTV 3·15晚会 Exposure

In recent news, the Small Yang Brother, a popular Chinese influencer, has been facing a refund controversy over his sales of pork and cabbage rolls, which were flagged by the China Central Television (CTV) 3·15晚会. According to reports, numerous consumers have received refunds for their purchases made from the influencer’s live streaming channel.

However, a closer look at the refund screenshots shared by netizens reveals that the refunds are not the threefold compensation mentioned in previous reports. Instead, consumers are being reimbursed for the original purchase price of the pork and cabbage rolls.

The issue gained national attention after the CTV 3·15晚会 named three food companies in Fuyang City, Anhui Province, for using unprocessed slop meat in the production of their preserved meat products, including the Yuhuiyuan Pork and Cabbage Rolls. The influencer, known as the Mad Brother, and Dongfang Zhenxuan, another popular live streaming platform, had endorsed this product.

Following the曝光 by the CTV 3·15晚会, San She Yang Network, the company behind the Yuhuiyuan Pork and Cabbage Rolls, issued a statement regarding the product’s situation.

The company revealed that they had started the consumer registration process on the evening of March 15 and had been providing refunds on a gradual basis.

San She Yang Network claimed that the product was first reported to the company’s supply chain system on April 14, 2023. The company conducted preliminary, initial, and final reviews of the product’s producer, distributor, and store qualifications and materials. Following the final review, the product was launched on the San She Yang Network live streaming channel on April 29, 2023.

To ensure product quality, the company’s quality control team conducted an on-site inspection of the raw materials, production, and packaging facilities on May 4 and 5, 2023. They also monitored the on-site shipping process and retained video and photo evidence. No irregularities were found during the inspection, and the evidence was reported to relevant government authorities.

After the media exposed the issues with Anhui Donghui Food Technology Co., Ltd., San She Yang Network promptly contacted the producer and seller. Both parties claimed that their online products had not used slop meat in violation of regulations and promised to provide relevant proof materials as soon as possible.

This incident highlights the importance of strict quality control and transparency in the food industry, especially in the context of e-commerce and live streaming platforms, where consumers often rely on influencers’ endorsements. The ongoing investigation and potential legal action against the involved parties may serve as a wake-up call for other businesses and influencers to prioritize consumer safety and product quality.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this controversy will impact the reputation of the Small Yang Brother and other endorsers, as well as the broader implications for the food industry and live streaming platforms in China.
