Newcastle’s New Sporting Director Backs Howe Amidst England Rumors

Newcastle United’s newly appointed sporting director, Paul Mitchell, has publicly stated that hewill not stand in the way of manager Eddie Howe should he receive an offer to manage the England national team.

We obviously want Eddie to be ourmanager for as long as possible, but we also recognize that his quality and potential have been seen by the world, Mitchell told the Daily Mail.

Mitchell’s comments come amidst speculation that Howe is a leading contender to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager following Southgate’s resignation after the World Cup. The Football Association has appointed U21 coach, Lee Carsley, as interim manager while theysearch for a permanent replacement.

I’m never scared of other clubs being interested in our staff, even our manager, especially when it’s a call from the FA, Mitchell added. I would see it as a testamentto the job Eddie has done here, a recognition of his work over the past two and a half years and at Bournemouth, a fair validation.

Mitchell, who replaced the recently departed Dan Ashworth, is keen to build a strong working relationship with Howe. We have a good trust between us and I enjoy interactingwith him, working and learning together. He is a very good coach in my opinion and it’s clear to see why the team has performed so well on the pitch in recent years.

Howe has been instrumental in Newcastle’s resurgence since his appointment in November 2021. He guided the clubto a remarkable 11th place finish in the Premier League in his first season, followed by a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification last season.

His success has not gone unnoticed, with many pundits and fans alike considering him a strong candidate for the England job. Howe’s tactical acumen, ability to develop players, and his passion for the game have made him a popular figure in English football.

However, Newcastle fans will be hoping that Howe remains at St. James’ Park for the foreseeable future. The club has ambitious plans under the ownership of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and Howe is a key partof their vision.

Mitchell’s comments suggest that Newcastle are prepared to be understanding if Howe receives an offer from the FA. However, they are also confident in their ability to attract and retain top talent, and they will be hoping that Howe will choose to stay at Newcastle.

The coming weeks will be crucial indetermining Howe’s future. The FA is expected to make a decision on their new manager in the near future, and Howe’s response to any potential offer will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike.
