Google Launches Early Access Program for Android Device Streaming, Samsung, Xiaomi, and OppoJoin

San Francisco, August 12, 2024 – Google is set to revolutionize Android app development with the launch of its Android Device Streaming early access program. This initiative will allow developers to remotely access andtest their apps on real Android devices hosted in Google’s data centers, directly within their Android Studio development environment.

The program, which will begin laterthis year, will initially feature devices from three major OEM partners: Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo. These partners have contributed their devices to Google’s OmniLab platform, a secure and high-performance environment that ensures a seamless testing experience.

Developers participating in the early access program will be able to connect to these devices via Android Studio, utilizing the familiar Android Debug Bridge (ADB) protocol. This allows for a wide range of testing functionalities, including app installation and uninstallation, device log inspection, file transfer, and command execution.

This is a game-changer for Android app development, said a Google spokesperson. By providing developers with access to real devices in a controlled environment, we are empowering them to create high-quality apps that perform flawlessly across a diverse range of devices.

The Android Device Streaming service leverages Google’s existing infrastructure and expertise in device management and security. The connection between developers and devices is encrypted, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of testing data.

Firebase, Google’s mobile development platform, will play a key role in the program. Firebase project administrators willhave the authority to enable or disable access to specific OEM labs, allowing for granular control over testing environments.
