Yellow Rain Warning Issued for Qinghai Province
Xining, Qinghai Province, China – The Qinghai Provincial Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow rain warning onSeptember 3rd, 2024, at 3:00 PM local time, warning of potential heavy rainfall in the coming 24hours.
According to the Central Meteorological Observatory website, the warning predicts that from 4:00 PM on September 3rd to 4:00 PM on September 4th, several counties and districts in Qinghai will experience heavy rainfall, with accumulated precipitation exceeding 50 millimeters. These areas include Tianjun, Wulan, Dulan, Gangcha, Qilian,Menyuan, Haiyan, Gonghe, Guide, Xinghai, Guinan, Tongde, Tongren, Jianzha, Xining City, Datong, Huangyuan, Huangzhong, Ping’an, Huzhu, Hualong, Minhe, Ledu, and Xunhua.
The warning also forecasts that other regions, including Henan, Zeku, Chenduo, Qumailai, Mado, and Maqin, will experience moderate rainfall, with accumulated precipitation reaching 25 millimeters or more. The heaviest rainfallis expected to occur from the night of September 3rd to the daytime of September 4th, with hourly rainfall intensity reaching 30 to 50 millimeters.
The meteorological observatory warns of potential severe convective weather events during this period, including short-term heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and thunderstorms accompanied bystrong winds. This poses a high risk of secondary disasters such as landslides, mudslides, floods in small and medium-sized rivers, mountain torrents, and urban and rural waterlogging.
The Qinghai Provincial Meteorological Observatory has issued the following preventative measures:
- Government and relevant departments should fulfill their responsibilitiesin preventing heavy rainfall.
- Traffic management departments should implement traffic control measures on roads affected by heavy rainfall and guide traffic on flooded roads.
- Cut off outdoor power sources in low-lying areas that pose a danger, suspend outdoor operations in open areas, and relocate people in dangerous areas and residentsof dilapidated houses to safe shelters.
- Inspect drainage systems in cities, farmland, and fish ponds and take necessary flood prevention measures.
This yellow rain warning highlights the importance of preparedness and vigilance during periods of heavy rainfall. Residents and authorities in affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimizepotential damage.
