Introduction
The story of my two-month experience with the星座 (constellation) bicycle, often referred to as the 御夫座, began in April when I stumbled upon an impressive cycling video. Captivated by its sleek design and apparent performance, I decided to purchase one for myself. By early June, I had secured a nearly new, titanium-colored model from an online marketplace for over 2500 RMB, without any after-sales service. After two months of riding, I sold it for 2100 RMB, showing minor磕碰 (scuffs).
Initial Impressions
Appearance
The bicycle’s外观 (appearance) was indeed striking. Its titanium sheen caught the light beautifully, and the aerodynamic frame and integrated handlebars were particularly appealing. I frequently received complements and inquiries about the bike’s price and design, which speaks volumes about its aesthetic appeal.
Specifications
At the time of purchase (before July 2024), the specifications were considered high-end, featuring hydraulic disc brakes, a Blueprint R5 drivetrain, and a fully internally routed integrated handlebar system. The paint job was also commendable. However, these specifications are now considered average in the market.
Drawbacks and Disappointments
Frame Geometry
The most significant issue I encountered was the frame geometry. A bicycle’s primary function is to provide a comfortable riding experience, and the 御夫座 failed to deliver on this front. The aerodynamic frame, which I initially found appealing, led to an uncomfortable riding position. Despite calculating my inseam height and adjusting the seat accordingly, I experienced discomfort, particularly when using the lower handlebar position. This resulted in persistent lower back pain, a problem I had not encountered with other bicycles.
Gear Shift System
The gear shift system, featuring the Blueprint R5, was another disappointment. Given the bike’s price point, it was unrealistic to expect top-tier components. However, the shifting performance was subpar, with the gears frequently rubbing against each other, requiring constant adjustments. This issue significantly marred the riding experience.
Weight
The bicycle’s weight was also a concern. With additional accessories like pedals, front and rear lights, a water bottle holder, and a cycling computer, the total weight exceeded 13 kilograms. This added weight made the bike feel cumbersome, particularly when starting from a standstill.
Recommendations
For those considering purchasing a 御夫座, I would advise carefully considering what you prioritize in a bicycle. If aesthetics are your primary concern, the 御夫座 and AD300 are viable options, with 御夫座 offering superior specifications. However, if a comfortable and hassle-free riding experience is more important, I recommend the Stellar 93, which retails for 3298 RMB. The Stellar 93 is known for its reliability and ease of maintenance.
Alternatively, if you’re willing to explore other brands, the recently popular tornado or Kemp Radon X might be worth considering, especially if they offer the R9 drivetrain.
Conclusion
After my two-month experience with the 御夫座, I decided to try something new. I recently purchased the newly released Zlete C6, which features a single-chainring setup and is notably lighter. I am eager to share my experiences with this new model and see how it compares to the 御夫座.
In conclusion, while the 御夫座 has a compelling design and decent specifications, its comfort and performance leave much to be desired. Potential buyers should weigh their priorities carefully before making a purchase.
