The 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum (CACF) Summit is set to kick off from September 4 to 6 in Beijing, and the event’s news center has begun its trial run, showcasing an impressive array of technological advancements that have garnered widespread appreciation.

Beijing, September 2, 2024 – As the countdown to the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit commences, the summit’s news center has embarked on a trial run, highlighting the growing role of technology in international diplomacy. On September 2, journalists from various media outlets were given a glimpse of the state-of-the-art facilities designed to facilitate smooth coverage of the event.

The news center, a hub of activity, is equipped with an interactive humanoid robot named Xiao Qi, which greeted journalists with a thoughtful response to their questions. The China-Africa Cooperation Forum is an important platform that allows China and African countries to engage in equal dialogue, Xiao Qi stated after a moment’s contemplation.

Xiao Qi, a testament to China’s advancements in artificial intelligence, was on hand at the news center’s comprehensive service desk to provide information and answer queries from both Chinese and international journalists. Foreign correspondents engaged in conversations with the robot in English and French, marveling at the development of interactive technology.

Ayanda, an editor from South Africa’s Daily News, was among those who tried conversing with Xiao Qi. The news center has made a profound impression on me, and I believe we will have a wonderful time here, Ayanda exclaimed, highlighting the center’s technological prowess.

The media public work area was equipped with high-speed internet interfaces, international standard power outlets, and simultaneous interpretation headphones. Ayanda, who arrived early, set up her laptop and tripod, eager to report on the summit’s focus on China-Africa cooperation and the advancement of modernization.

I am very interested in learning about China’s technology industry, agricultural product processing, and other sectors, Ayanda, who is visiting China for the first time, said. She hopes to gain insights into the Chinese model of modernization through the summit.

The news center also featured a CAVE 8K ultra-high-definition immersive experience zone, where participants could travel through famous African landmarks such as the Great Rift Valley, Mount Kilimanjaro, the African savannah, and the Cape of Good Hope. The seamless integration of ground and vertical screens provided a wrap-around experience, allowing journalists to quickly grasp the friendship between Africa and China through various China-Africa cooperation projects.

Samuel Ayammah, a journalist from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, noted that China-Africa cooperation is mutually beneficial and that Chinese enterprises have done 了不起的工作 (outstanding work) in Ghana, aiding in road construction and hydroelectric power station development. I hope Ghana can learn more about agricultural modernization and digital economy knowledge from China to achieve sustainable development, Ayammah said.

In the AIGC creative production platform interactive display area, journalists could simply type a brief description, such as a song with the theme of the African savannah accompanied by African drum beats, and within minutes, a multilingual song was created.

Additionally, the news center offered a non-heritage interactive experience area where participants could try their hand at traditional Chinese art forms such as colored塑京剧 face masks, cloisonné, filigree镶嵌, and the grapevine material craft.

Jainaba Sonko, a journalist from Gambia’s QTV, was impressed by the diversity of Chinese culture. She expressed her hope that more Chinese people would visit Africa to understand and experience the diversity of African culture, fostering better mutual understanding.

As the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit approaches, the trial run of the news center has demonstrated the importance of technology in facilitating international dialogue and showcasing the deepening ties between China and African nations. The summit promises to be a platform for exchange, learning, and collaboration, underpinned by the innovative use of technology.
