Guangxi’s New Green Power Highway Boosts Renewable Energy Utilization
Nanning, China, August 25, 2024 – A new 220-kilovolt transmission line, dubbed the green power highway, officially went into operation in Guangxi onFriday, marking a significant step towards efficient utilization of renewable energy in the region.
The Suicha Line, as it is officially known, is locatedin Fangchenggang City and serves as a crucial energy conduit for the 300-megawatt agricultural photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage integrated project in Shangsi County. This project, upon completion, will generate approximately 310 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, contributing significantly to Guangxi’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
The Suicha Line is the first 220-kilovolt green power highway in Shangsi County,explained Hu Xiangyuan, deputy manager of the Construction Management Department (Project Management Center) of the Southern Power Grid Fangchenggang Power Supply Bureau. The line, spanning approximately 39 kilometers with 103 towers, was completed four months ahead of schedule, thanks to the dedicated efforts of around 96construction workers.
The successful completion of the Suicha Line provides a robust energy infrastructure for the 300-megawatt agricultural PV and energy storage integrated project, enabling the efficient transmission of clean energy generated by the project.
The ‘one-stop’ service provided by the Power Supply Bureau has allowedus to experience Fangchenggang’s efficient electricity management and high-quality service firsthand, said Hu Junpeng, the project manager of the Guangzhou Development Shangsi 300-megawatt agricultural PV and energy storage integrated project.
Guangxi has witnessed a surge in renewable energy development, particularly in wind, solar, and biomass power generation, driven by the national dual carbon goals. The region is actively building a diversified energy supply system encompassing onshore and offshore wind power, nuclear power, solar power, biomass, and clean coal-fired power.
As of July 2024, Guangxi’s renewableenergy installed capacity has surpassed 32.69 million kilowatts, accounting for 38% of the total installed capacity. The non-fossil fuel power generation share reached 58.4%.
In line with Guangxi’s energy project layout, the Southern Power Grid has been diligently constructinggreen power transmission lines, adhering to the principle of agile construction, said Zhang Ning, general manager of the Infrastructure Department of the Southern Power Grid Guangxi Power Grid Company. This year, we have successfully completed and put into operation several green power transmission lines, including the 700-megawatt offshore wind powerdemonstration project A site 220-kilovolt transmission line project in Fangchenggang City, the 110-kilovolt Chunxia Chi line in Nanning Hengzhou City, and the 110-kilovolt Wu Tao Da line in Chongzuo Daxin Longmen WindFarm, adding over 130 kilometers of new transmission lines for renewable energy.
The Southern Power Grid Guangxi Power Grid Company is committed to dynamically tracking the development needs of energy projects and constructing supporting transmission lines to ensure a smooth and reliable energy flow for wind, solar, thermal, nuclear, and hydropower sources.This will create a robust grand channel for the power grid, guaranteeing that renewable energy can be connected, transmitted, and utilized effectively.
We will continue to support the construction of a new power system and a new energy system in Guangxi, contributing to the realization of the ‘dual carbon’ goals,Zhang Ning emphasized.
