Chinese Company Joins Hands with Brazilian Firm to Build 1 MW Green Hydrogen Project in Rio Grande do Norte
Natal, Brazil, August 23(CNS) – On August 22, State Grid Brazil Power CPFL Company (hereinafter referred to as State Grid Brazil CPFL), a subsidiary of China’s State Grid Corporation, and Brazilian company Mizu signed a cooperation agreement in Natal, the capital of Rio Grande do Norte in northeastern Brazil, to jointly build a “1 MW (MW) Full-Chain Green Hydrogen Station Technology Project.”
The project marks a significant step in the deepening cooperation between Chinese companies and Brazil in the hydrogen energy sector, and also reflects the Brazilian government’s determination to actively promote the green energy transition.
It is understood that the Brazilian Electricity RegulatoryAgency (ANEEL) issued new regulations for technology projects in July 2023, including “green hydrogen” among the eight “strategic themes” for the future. The project signed this time will cover the entire chain of hydrogen energy production, storage and transportation, and application, and is expected to become Brazil’s first large-scale green hydrogen demonstration project after completion.
Chen Daobiao, Chairman of State Grid Brazil CPFL, said at the signing ceremony that the company will deepen cooperation with the Rio Grande do Norte state government to jointly study the green hydrogen industry chain, explore hydrogen-electricity coupling technology, promote the developmentof green and clean energy, provide technological innovation support for the economic development of northeastern Brazil, and contribute to Brazil’s green energy transition.
Governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, welcomed the project’s implementation. She believes that Chinese companies’ green hydrogen technology projects in the region will helppromote the green development of local industries and enhance their sustainable development capabilities. She also reviewed the achievements of State Grid Corporation’s active participation in Brazil’s energy infrastructure investment and construction, such as the wind farm that has already been put into operation and is generating profits, as well as the desalination project built in thestate, which has benefited over 3,000 local residents and improved their lives.
Lan Heping, Consul General of China in Recife, said that new energy plays a leading role in China-Brazil cooperation. The signing of this green hydrogen technology project fully demonstrates the broad prospects and vitality of practical exchanges andcooperation between China and Brazil.
