The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) held a joint meeting onTuesday with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Office of Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Education to discuss the current COVID-19 situation and responseplans.
A sampling survey conducted by the KDCA among 220 hospital-level medical institutions showed that the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations has been increasing weekly since late June, but the growth rate has been steadily narrowing since the fourth week of July (109.7%), falling to5.7% in the third week of August.
The government believes the supply of antigen test kits remains stable overall and plans to release 60,000 and 177,000 doses of COVID-19 treatment drugs to the market this week and on August 26,respectively. In addition, to alleviate pressure on emergency rooms, the Ministry of Health and Welfare will be opening fever clinics at public hospitals across the country.
