BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) — A 10-day “Exploring Yongtai Fortified Villages and the Young Scholars Summer Camp” came to an end in Yongtai County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, at the Yongtonghui Herb Garden in Tong’an Town on Tuesday.
The summer camp, which attracted 30 disadvantaged youths from five provinces including Shanxi, Henan, Beijing, Jiangxi, and Fujian, provided them with a memorable educational journey in Yongtai County.
During the camp, the children gained insights into the history and culture of Yongtai fortified villages and local customs through field studies, cultural experiences, and team-building activities, as well as developing practical abilities, innovative spirit, and teamwork. The event was guided by the team of Xiang Dengfei and the China Population Welfare Foundation, aiming to convey the love and warmth of society to the disadvantaged youths and inspire their potential and creativity.
Zhang Peifeng, director of the Village Preservation Office in Yongtai County, said that the summer camp is part of the 2024 “Harvest Action” project, which is fully funded and aims to provide a learning and exchange platform for disadvantaged youth in rural areas across the country.
