毛宁指出，美方近期持续泛化国家安全概念，对毫无证据的中国留学生进行签证取消、禁止入境、强制遣返等不公平待遇，这些行为严重侵犯了中国留学生的合法权益，同时也对中美两国的人文交流构成了实质性的阻碍。他强调，中美之间的人文交流是两国关系的重要支柱，不应受到任何无端的干扰。

BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) – China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed strong concern on Thursday over recent incidents of Chinese students being arbitrarily interrogated and deported upon entering the United States, urging Washington to live up to its commitments and not undermine cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Mao pointed out that the US has been continuously broadening the definition of national security, subjecting Chinese students to unwarranted visa cancellations, entry bans, and forced deportations without evidence. These actions, she said, seriously violate the rights and interests of Chinese students and pose substantial obstacles to bilateral cultural exchanges.
She emphasized that people-to-people exchanges are a vital pillar of the China-US relationship and should not be arbitrarily disrupted. “We urge the US to discard prejudices, cease the unjustified suppression of Chinese students, protect their legitimate rights and interests, and genuinely implement the consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders on strengthening cultural exchanges,” Mao stated.
Hoping that the US will practice what it preaches, she called for facilitating the travel of citizens from both countries and fostering a healthy and stable development of the China-US relationship.
In recent years, educational exchanges have been an essential component of the bilateral relationship.
