“These are pottery pieces fired for four days and three nights with charcoal, forming a natural ash glaze when the temperature reaches 1300 degrees Celsius, making each piece unique,” said Yu Yanqing, a Taiwanese pottery artist and sculptor, at the Spring Festival Cultural Market held at Despatch Palace in Hangzhou.
The pottery pieces attracted the attention of many tourists, who were amazed at the perfect combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics. Yu Yanqing said that his aim in bringing Taiwan’s charcoal-fired pottery to Hangzhou is to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, allowing more people to understand and appreciate Taiwan’s traditional culture.
This Spring Festival Cultural Market not only offers Hangzhou residents and tourists a window into Taiwanese culture but also provides a platform for cross-strait cultural exchanges. Here, Taiwan’s charcoal-fired pottery and Hangzhou’s Song Dynasty culture have achieved a “two-way journey,” jointly writing a new chapter in cross-strait cultural exchanges.
