Title: China’s First L4 Autonomous Unmanned Patrol Vehicles Begin Road Testing in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Zone
Keywords: unmanned patrol vehicles, autonomous driving, New Stone Company
Recently, the first batch of unmanned patrol vehicles approved for road testing in China began to operate in Beijing’s Economic-Technological Development Zone. The vehicles, developed by New Stone Company, consist of 15 units and will be stationed 24/7 in various areas such as parks, subway stations, commercial squares, and other densely populated and key locations within a 60 square kilometer area of the demonstration zone. They will undertake patrol and prevention tasks, security for large-scale events, publicity and warning, and emergency rescue services. According to Zhang Weiling, partner and senior vice president of New Stone Company, the unmanned patrol vehicles possess L4 automatic driving technology and redundant safety protection features, including region-based control, one-click assistance, patrol duty, regulatory propaganda, and emergency command functions.
ITHome reported that in September 2020, Beijing officially established the world’s first networked cloud-controlled high-level automated driving demonstration zone. The demonstration zone integrates various high-quality resources such as “cars, roads, clouds, networks, and maps” to target the large-scale operation of L4 or higher-level automated driving vehicles. The launch of these unmanned patrol vehicles marks an important breakthrough in China’s research on autonomous driving.
At present, China’s autonomous driving industry is developing rapidly and has already covered several fields such as self-driving cars, self-driving public transportation, and unmanned delivery vehicles. With the continuous maturity of technology and the gradual improvement of policies, it is expected that China’s autonomous driving industry will usher in broader market space in the future.
