Keidanren Chief Calls for Growth-Focused Policies After Election
Tokyo,October 28, 2024 – The chairman ofJapan’s powerful business lobby, Keidanren, has urged political parties to prioritize growth policies in the wake of the recent House of Representatives election.
Speaking publicly on the election results, Masakazu Tokura, Keidanren chairman, stated, I believe the public has delivered a stern judgment onthe issue of political funding, which must be taken seriously and addressed with sincerity. On the other hand, Japan’s economy faces numerous pressing challenges. I strongly hope for the establishment of a stable political system centered around the Liberal Democratic Party andKomeito, enabling policy-driven governance.

This includes promoting economic growth through avirtuous cycle of growth and distribution; advancing an energy policy that prioritizes the maximum utilization of nuclear power; building a fair, sustainable, and intergenerational social security system that caters to all age groups; creating an environment conducive to sustaining and strengthening wage increases; revitalizing regional economies; and maintaining and strengthening the international economic order.
Tokura’s comments come as the new government faces significant economic challenges, including a stagnant economy, rising inflation, and an aging population. The business community is looking to the new government to implement policies that will boost economic growth and address these challenges.
